Meet Canonical at Embedded World 2023

Embedded World is almost here! With 930+ exhibitors, 200 nonstop hours of knowledge sharing, and an exciting programme structured along 9 tracks with 60+ sessions and 18 classes, Embedded World is the must-attend global event for the embedded community.

Join Canonical at Booth 4-600 in Hall 4 to discuss secure open-source adoption for IoT and smart devices with Ubuntu. You can meet the Canonical team on-site at Embedded World and pick our technical experts’ brains about your embedded Linux use case.

Ubuntu raises the bar for embedded Linux

The embedded ecosystem is a key focus area for Canonical. We are fully committed to supporting device manufacturers and IoT pioneers across their deployment journeys by providing a best-in-class experience for embedded Linux in production.

At Embedded World, you’ll connect with manufacturers engaging in large-scale, mass-deployments of Linux boards. Those forward-thinkers and innovators push the envelope of digital infrastructure by adopting Ubuntu Core, the most popular Linux-based operating system (OS) purposefully designed for the embedded world. By relying on an enterprise-grade Linux distribution supported over 10+  years, they empower their enterprise customers to focus on what drives their business, shortening time-to-market.

Meet our experts at  Booth 4-600 in Hall 4 to learn about Ubuntu Core, the secure, application-centric IoT OS for embedded devices. Embedded devices on Ubuntu Core remain fully operational during both application and system updates, as the delta, OTA, transactional updates are either 100% successful or not installed, leaving no trace of failure other than log details. Device manufacturers are relieved of the time and effort required to implement reliable updates.

Imagine a world where every device is trustworthy. We designed every aspect of Ubuntu Core to create the most secure embedded Linux ever, with a 10y LTS commitment.

As an embedded operating system designed from first boot to be the most secure platform for connected devices, Ubuntu Core meets enterprise standards by enabling you to roll out ultra-reliable software updates to inaccessible and often remotely administered embedded devices in the field. Furthermore, Ubuntu Core provides a store to manage your devices and updates. The IoT App Store is a custom enterprise store enabling developers to cherry-pick the optimal combination of applications for their embedded Linux project, including software published in the global Snap Store and custom software developed internally for a specific use case.

Canonical’s sessions at Embedded World

At Embedded World, we will also showcase how we are setting the stage for the future of digitisation in manufacturing and accelerating industrial transformation. Join us for these sessions to learn more about how Ubuntu Core is Embedded Linux 2.0.

How real-time Linux drives the future of Industrial Automation

Speaker: Edoardo Barbieri, Product Manager

Session details: Tuesday, March 14, 10:30 – 11:00, Exhibitor’s Forum Hall 2: Booth nr. 2-501

Abstract: Real-time compute is a decisive factor in the industry transformation to software-defined embedded systems. From fixed functions and proprietary architectures to flexible and dynamic control environments, real-time Linux plays a key role in the transition towards Industry 4.0. In this talk, Edoardo will discuss how real-time ties to modern market trends and help you navigate the shift toward multi-vendor interoperability and open-source software adoption in your enterprise.

Ubuntu on RISC-V

Speaker: Heinrich Schuchardt, RISC-V Lead Engineer

Session details: Tuesday, March 14, 11:00 – 11:15, RISC-V booth 1-550

Abstract: Delivering a Linux distribution for an architecture in plain development is an exciting journey. In this talk, Heinrich will describe the challenges and opportunities encountered while driving RISC-V support in Ubuntu forward.

How to get RISC-V hardware fully “powered up” with excellent, secure and maintainable software

Speaker: Steve Barriault, Vice-President Field Engineering IoT

Session details: Wednesday, March 15, 11:30 – 11:45, RISC-V booth 1-550

Abstract: It is a truism in the market that the best hardware does not always win races. A solid library of code that can be trusted and maintained is decisive for RISC-V to fulfil its promises. In this talk, Steve will discuss Canonical’s current efforts and future plans to help the community deliver innovative and secure RISC-V -based solutions.

Experience innovation first-hand

By tightly collaborating with a world-leading ecosystem of partners, Ubuntu Core is the industry standard for IoT and embedded devices. Canonical partners with silicon vendors, board manufacturers and ODMs to shorten enterprises’ time-to-market.

At Embedded World you’ll experience first-hand the strength of our partner ecosystem and vibrant community.
