This month, we had some news on Snappy, MAAS and Mojo, but also the results to our annual cloud survey are in! If that was not enough, find out more about our event plans over the next few weeks and sign up for our latest webinar! Here’s a quick recap of an exciting start to 2015.

“Snappy” Ubuntu Core

Last month, Canonical announced snappy Ubuntu Core, the new, transactional version of Ubuntu, designed for public clouds. Prior to this month’s announcements, snappy Ubuntu Core images were available on Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Engine, and Amazon AWS. This month, we’ve announced new images for Vagrant Cloud, as well as OVA images to allow you to run snappy Ubuntu Core on the hypervisor of your choice. Ready to get started? Read the documentation here.

In addition to cloud, we brought snappy Ubuntu Core to connected things and IoT. Snappy Ubuntu Core on smart devices delivers bullet-proof security, reliable updates and the enormous Ubuntu ecosystem at your fingertips, bringing the developer’s favourite cloud platform to a wide range of internet things, connected devices and autonomous machines. Learn more about snappy Ubuntu Core on connected devices here.

Partner ecosystem news

More solutions providers are recognising the advantages of using Juju Charms to deploy cloud workloads. Skymind, the company behind the open-source project DeepLearning4J, which is the first commercial-grade, open-source deep-learning library written in Java, is the latest addition to Canonical’s Charm Partner Programme.

As the leading OpenStack distributor, and leading Linux distribution on all major public clouds, we owe much of our success to our amazing partners. Listen to what a small sampling of our ecosystem partners are saying about Ubuntu and working with Canonical.

Ubuntu Cloud Survey results are in!

We recently ran our 6th annual cloud and server survey, and the results are in! They show interesting trends regarding OpenStack adoption, cloud infrastructure preferences, and what workloads companies are looking to deploy. You can read the summary in this blog post, view the infographic, or take a look at our slide deck.

Featured Blogposts

This month, we published two blog posts written by Canonical’s IS department to introduce you to Mojo, a new tool that can verify the success of Juju deployments, making your clouds and workloads even easier to manage. Read blog post 1 and blog post 2 here.

In addition to Mojo, Canonical Solutions Architect Ivan Zoratti showed us how to deploy VirtualBox virtual machines using MAAS. You can read the blog post here.

Upcoming Events

In addition to major product and service related announcements, we have exciting events coming up in the next month.

Canonical and Atomia are teaming up for a joint webinar on the challenges of deploying OpenStack for public clouds, pitfalls to avoid, and how to make sure your cloud is truly production-grade. Join us on February, 17th at 5pm GMT/ 12pm EDT. If you would like to register, click here.

We have an exciting cloud presence this year at MWC showcasing SDN / NFV, Big data and OpenStack demos tailored for Telcos and Service Providers. Stop by booth 8.1F41 to see the demos in action and talk to the team. If you’d like to book a meeting with our Executive Team, please get in touch using the link provided.

Planning to be in Las Vegas in February? Visit us at IBM Interconnect!  The Ubuntu team will be at booth 832 in the Solution Center Expo at the Mandalay Bay.
